Manchester Synagogue Attack: 2 Dead, 3 Injured

Two people were killed and three others seriously injured during a car and knife attack at a synagogue in northern England on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Greater Manchester Police said Wednesday the suspect is also dead. Bomb experts are investigating whether he was carrying an explosive device. The attack unfolded when a vehicle was driven at members of the public outside the synagogue before a man began stabbing people, authorities said. U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack as “horrific” and announced additional police deployments at synagogues across the country.

Federal prosecutors have charged a man in connection with a deadly gang-related shootout at a Brooklyn nightclub this summer that left three people dead and 10 others injured. The incident occurred on Aug. 17 inside the Taste of City Lounge in Crown Heights. Prosecutors released security camera footage Wednesday showing the chaotic scene, with patrons scrambling for cover as more than 40 shots were fired from five guns. Authorities say 25-year-old Elijah Roy, a suspected gang member, fired at least two shots during the melee. He was arrested last week in North Carolina with $7,000 in cash and was arraigned Wednesday in New York, where a judge ordered him held without bail.
