Self-described socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced on Twitter Tuesday that she will join California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters on the House Financial Services Committee.

Fox News reports Ocasio-Cortez said in her tweet, "Personally, I’m looking forward to digging into the student loan crisis, examining for-profit prisons/ICE detention, and exploring the development of public & postal banking.”

The 29-year-old has suggested that the nation's largest banks should be broken up.

She has also struggled to explain how she would fund her proposals to provide Medicare for all and guarantee housing and education, and has falsely claimed that wasteful military spending could be used to pay for her laundry list of policy goals.
