A bill that has passed the New Mexico state House and is now at the Democrat-controlled state Senate would in essence force doctors and nurses to perform abortions.

Breitbart reports House Bill 51 is similar to New York’s new abortion law that removes all restrictions to abortion, even up to birth.

Republican Rep. Rod Montoya said “[The bill] compels doctors, nurses, hospitals to perform abortion,” because the legislation eliminates a conscience clause that protects their right to refuse to participate in an abortion.

The bill also continues the practice of late term abortion, which is already legal in New Mexico.

Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has promised to sign the bill if it reaches her desk.
