Gonzaga University has blocked a proposed speaking engagement for conservative commentator and author Ben Shapiro.

Life Site News reports the College Republicans on campus had requested to have Shapiro speak at the university. That was declined by Gonzaga’s Vice President of Student Development, who cited their “Catholic/Jesuit mission, human dignity, solidarity with vulnerable people, and safety concerns.”

She also appeared worried that routinely violent left-wing protestors could show up as they have at other schools hosting conservative speakers.

The College Republicans claim Gonzaga wants to be a “left of center-university…that only supports strictly liberal thinking.”

In the past Gonzaga has hosted among others, supporters of abortion and same-sex “marriage” and been unsupportive of pro-life causes on campus.
