In this final installment of our series on The Sermon on the Mount, we encounter a radical Jesus standing in the midst of the people and proclaiming a bold new way to be in relationship with God and with one another. He ends the reading by telling us to "not worry about what may or may not happen tomorrow." This is a tough text for us in a world where worry is commonplace. Join us as we encounter Jesus' words anew today.
Dr. Perry Sanders, pastor emeritus, First Baptist Church, Lafayette, Louisiana, called them "God's Attention Getters." Popular preacher Ron Dunn described them as "Strange Ministers." Others, like Henry Blackaby, saw them as "Crisis of Faith." No matter how you define or describe them, Failure (and Frustration); Illness (and Disease); and Death, are woven into the very fabric of life, to nudge us to "Seek the Lord."
This compilation is a small portion of a larger pastoral message delivered at the First Baptist Church, Chalmette, Louisiana, by Dr. John Dee Jeffries, on Sunday evening, October 18, 2009. It's intention? To nudge us to "Seek the Lord."
Why do we do good as Christians? Some have claimed we're saved by works. Yet if that's true, how can we do works better than the Pharisees who were the most religious people of them all. Jesus said our righteousness must be greater than that. So works
must not be something we do to make us righteous, but something that flows out of who we are a Christians. Isaiah 58:3-9, Matthew 5:16, Matthew 5:20, Jeremiah 23:6, 1 Corinthians 1:30, Romans 4:24, Hebrews 11:6, 1 JOhn 1:9, Romans 5:8, 2 Corinthians 5:21,
Galatians 3:27

Some Pastors and Christian authors say God's primary desire is to help you live your best life now, to shower you with blessings, and make you prosperous. They claim that if you name it and claim it and believe it enough that God will give you everything
you want. If this is true, this should be clear to see in the lives of Jesus' closest and first followers. If we look at the life of the Apostle Paul we should either see the victorious life that some Christian authors claim we should have, or we should see
him struggling like everyone else. This message takes a look at what Paul and the disciples were willing to endure in order to spread the Gospel message. Their suffering is great proof of the resurrection and the power of Jesus Christ and the hope that we
can have no matter what we’re going through or how we suffer. 1 Corinthians 4:9-13, 2 Corinthians 11:23-27, 2 Timothy 4:6-18, Revelation 2:10, Philippians 4:4, Hebrews 13:5, Romans 8:18
